KcCLC is a private, non-profit early childhood center and preschool program that provides quality care and individualized instruction to children ages 2 ½ to 5. We are a year-round center, open from 7:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday. We offer full and part-time enrollment options to accommodate the needs of today’s busy families.
KcCLC is modeled after Century School, a program established in 1994 in Lawrence, Kansas by Dr. Don Bushell and Sherrill Bushell. An alternative to public education, Century School was designed to offer a truly unique learning experience to children ages 3 to 12. More information is available at their website, www.centuryschool.org.
Like Century School, KcCLC believes strongly in the ability young children have for learning. Our society does not always acknowledge this ability, but the late Lewis Thomas did when, in 1992, he wrote in The Fragile Species:
“We seem to have forgotten, or never learned, what young children really are, and how special their minds are. Most of us tend to think of early childhood as a primitive stage of life, a sort of deficiency in the mind that will, with time be outgrown. What we keep overlooking is the sheer tremendous power, unique in the brain of a young child, never to be matched again later in life, for learning.”
